When I was a little girl I hated to read.
It was always boring, difficult and there was just so many other things to do.
The first book I can really remember falling in love with, being inspired by and driving my thirst to read more was Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine.

I fell in love with Ella the heroine of the book, she wasn't perfect but had a good heart and a little spunk. She fought against an ill planned blessing, given to her as a baby. That blessing turned out to be more of a curse for Ella throughout her young life.

Now if you have watched the movie named Ella Enchanted...I am sorry...it was a horrible excuse for using the same title and a few similar plot lines. Other than that the movie was so different and not in a good way then the book.
I highly recommend Ella Enchanted to any young reader, boy or girl. My older sons have enjoyed reading Ella Enchanted as much as I did as a young girl. Now that my third son is a little older, I look forward to reading my favorite childhood book again with him this summer.

Since reading Ella Enchanted I have now read many of Gail Carson Levine's novels. The Princess Tales are so fun and really quick reads. I would recommend her books for upper elementary grades and up! Her books make wonderful family read aloud or wonderful books to cozy up with independently.
